CoWash & Curl Definition Instructions
Step 1 – Pre-Wash Preparation
In the shower, section hair into 5–6 parts using hair clips before wetting. This makes curly hair easier to manage.
Wet all sections thoroughly while keeping them separate.
Step 2 – Detangling & Conditioning
Apply conditioner section by section and work through each with a Denman brush, starting from the ends. Detangling curly hair is most effective when done in sections.
Deep condition for 15–30 minutes.
Step 3 – Rinsing
For kinkier textures, leave a small amount of conditioner in the hair to act as a leave-in for moisture retention.
For looser curls, rinse thoroughly to prevent weighed-down curls. Adjust based on personal preference and desired curl style.
Step 4 – Curl Definition
Section hair into 3–4 parts and fully detangle using a Denman brush. Ensure all curls are brushed out—skipping this step may cause problems later.
Mix 2/3 water with 1/3 conditioner in a spray bottle and saturate each section.
Apply a light sealant cream to lock in moisture. Brush through each section to help coils form naturally.
Use a cotton T-shirt to scrunch each section—this helps set the coil shape and removes excess water.
Dry hair with a diffuser until about 60% dry (optional: air-dry). Avoid touching or running fingers through the hair while drying.
Refresh curls as needed with a water and conditioner spray until the next CoWash.
Step 5 – Maintenance Between Installs
Once per month or between installs, use an intensive hair mask or hot oil treatment to maintain hair longevity.
Always use a heat protectant when styling. Excessive heat can alter the curl pattern and integrity of the hair, similar to natural hair.
Key Tips
Avoid touching curls while drying to prevent frizz.
Shedding is normal; breakage is not—handle with care.
Use recommended products to preserve moisture and curl pattern.
Step 1: Prep & Section
Start by gently sectioning your hair into 5–6 parts using clips. This helps manage the hair easily, especially with curly or textured extensions.
Step 2: Co-Wash
Wet each section thoroughly with lukewarm water.
Apply your favorite moisturizing conditioner and gently work it through each section using your fingers or a wide-tooth comb.
Focus on hydrating every strand — this will help restore softness and natural movement.
Step 3: Detangle
With your conditioner still in, detangle from ends to roots, using a Denman brush or wide-tooth comb.
Take your time — patience here prevents shedding and keeps your extensions looking brand new.
Step 4: Rinse & Deep Condition
Rinse each section thoroughly, then apply a deep conditioner or hydrating mask.
Let it sit for 15–30 minutes for maximum moisture and shine.
Step 5: Twist & Define
Once your hair is clean and detangled, apply a lightweight leave-in conditioner or curl cream.
Re-section your hair and twist each piece to define your curls.
Use your fingers or a Denman brush to form smooth, uniform coils.
Allow your twists to air dry or use a diffuser on low heat for faster results.
